Russian Navy (VMF) - Tier 3: Bogatyr

As stated last post, the general feel of the Novik persists for 3 ships, up to tier 4. Bogatyr is the second step in this game-play style.

The Bogatyr is an evolution of the Novik, in my opinion. Despite the addition of an imperial Russian hull symbol, the Bogatyr gains the addition of two 152mm guns, replacing the frontal and rear 130 guns of the Novik, however, she still keeps the Novik's 130 side guns.

An immense increase in firepower

Once upgraded to the (B) Hull, the ship really piqued my interest. Up until now i really hadn't enjoyed a ship nor understood its purpose. The Bogatyr is bristling with guns on all sides. This floating gun fortress allows you to engage targets 360 degrees around the ship, and to add insult to injury, they fire very quickly. When firing high explosive rounds, you're guaranteed to set the enemy ships alight.

The guns fire at a respectable trajectory too. The shells don't take years to reach their target and thus you don't need to lead the target very much. This is very helpful for someone still trying to learn the basics of lead and shell velocity.

Firepower is where the fun ends.

Firepower isn't everything when it comes to making a good ship. Unfortunately the Bogatyr's perks pretty much end at the maximum range of its guns. It boasts an incredibly slow speed compared to other cruisers of other nations. You don't boast much in the way of health either, getting caught out by another cruiser or, god forbid, a battleship, you can expect to lose a lot of health or even the whole ship.

I found that the ship was a big threat to destroyers. The destroyers dont seem to take particularly well to be blasted by high explosive shells and with the amount of guns on this ship, they wont be floating for long.

Being Tier 3, there is a possibility of facing tier 4 ships. That means aircraft carriers. At all tiers the aircraft carriers are considered to be incredibly overpowered and and accomplish pretty much everything in a match on their own. The Bogatyr possesses a massive weakness when coming up against carriers - it doesn't have a single anti-air armament. Not a single AA gun. Luckily for me i never got to face a carrier in the Bogatyr, but i will give you a tip just in case you do find yourself on the receiving end of one.

Stay near another ship, unless its a Bogatyr then you both are in trouble. While the anti air capabilities of all low tier ships is laughable, staying next to a ship with AA at least allows the incoming planes to be damaged and might deter them from just buzzing around like they would if they found you alone.

Ending comments

The Bogatyr's firepower does take your mind off its other short comings but for some of you this might be insufferable. Luckily low tier much of a grind when it comes to reaching the next ship. You'll be at the next tier in no time! Good luck to those grinding up their respected tech tree and especially those going up the Russian Cruiser line.
